Hearts for Hospice is now part of the Fred Meyer Community Rewards Program! If you shop at Fred Meyer using their rewards card, you can help earn donations for Hearts for Hospice. All you have to do is link your card to us. Here's the link: Fred Meyer Community Rewards If you don't already have a Fred Meyer Rewards Card, you can pick one up at the customer service counter in any Fred Meyer. You still earn your Rewards Points, Fuel Points, and Rebates, just as you do today, and your purchases will benefit Hearts for Hospice as well.
This Friday, May 13, we will again be participating in the Downtown Springfield ArtWalk at the Hearts for Hospice Resale Shop from 5-8pm.
As an added bonus, we will have a large selection of our framed art outside our front door at 50% off for this evening only. Our featured artist this month is Kim Black, a native Oregonian. Her work is inspired by nature and native American cultures as well as indigenous art throughout the world. Kim creates beautiful gourd vessels, gourd wall art and pine needle baskets. She describes herself as a life-long learner who enjoys trying new things, as evidenced in her stunning work. Her goal is to create beautiful, high quality, yet affordable art. We’re also pleased to welcome back the band Monroe Street, who will provide musical entertainment for the evening. Please join us for this festive evening. The Hearts for Hospice Resale Shop is looking for a part-time shop manager. A successful and growing nonprofit, Hearts for Hospice raises funds to support non-medical services for hospice clients, end-of-life education and bereavement programs.
The resale shop is at 444 Main St., Springfield. A corps of committed volunteers process donations, staff the shop, provide customer service, and serve the community. We are looking for a manager who: Has a comprehensive understanding of the shop's purpose, policies and procedures, as well as a working knowledge of hospice services. Supports and mentors the volunteer pool, whose purpose is to operate the resale shop compassionately, professionally and profitably. Coordinates all aspects of merchandise management, including donations, pricing, display and inventory. Maintains an open line of communications with all volunteers. The manager must sustain a positive working environment, managing personnel issues appropriately and in a timely manner. Maintains a monthly volunteer schedule, providing adequate coverage for the shop during business hours. Provides exceptional customer service and ensure that volunteers provide the same level of service. 20 hours/week; $14-17 per hour. If interested and qualified, please send cover letter and resume. Hearts For Hospice and Sacred Heart Hospice are partnering to participate in National Health Care Decisions Day: a day designated to inspire, educate and empower the public and providers about the importance of advance care planning. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about Advance Directives, POLSTs (Physician Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment), hospice benefits and treatment and the Life Passages Palliative Care Program. Bring your questions! Sacred Heart Hospice and Life Passages will provide Medical Social Workers and a chaplain. Members of the Hearts for Hospice education committee will be in attendance to assist in providing information about end-of-life care planning. Advance Directive and POLST forms and other helpful literature will be available. Light snacks will be provided. Sandra Clarke, founder of the No One Dies Alone Program, will make a guest appearance in the afternoon from 2:30-4:00. Sandra started No One Dies Alone at PeaceHealth Medical Center in Eugene fifteen years ago. The program provides volunteers to sit at the hospital bedside of actively dying patients who have no family or friends to be with them. The program has spread across the United States and into many other countries as well. Please join us for this very special event. Half-Price Sale on All Winter Clothing starts today, March 16th, and continues until Saturday the 19th. Stop by the shop and pick up some great buys. And Don't forget - the first Saturday of every month our clothing inventory is half off. This just-published book, written by 37 year old Dr. Paul Kalanithi, after his diagnosis of terminal cancer, is a remarkable and intimate portrait of a life and death well-lived. A review in today's New York Times describes this book as "as intimate and Illuminating as Atul Gawande's "Being Mortal."
"When Breath Becomes Air" Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for a great 2015; we are so grateful. Here's to an even better year ahead with blossoming opportunities to support hospice services in our community.
